You may not have heard of Daniel Buren, especially if you are not a great follower of the arts or are new to France, but the name is synonymous with a few of the most well known public art "installations" in Paris.  Specifically, you may have heard of the "Colonnes de Buren" that are in the Cour d'Honneur du Palais-Royal, just opposite the Louvre, currently being renovated (see below for details).

Buren's latest piece of work is for the Musée Picasso at the Hotel Salé.  He was commissioned to design some work for the public spaces of the museum, and the result is as original as it is imposing.  The overall work will take a year and will involve a number of different installations, but the most impressive is already in place: It is being referred to as The Cut.  As ever, his name is attached to the work, so it's really referred to as "Buren's Cut".

Bookworm

Ron Arad is a designer of Israeli origin who is recognised for his designs since the 1980s.  After studying architecture in London, discovered design in Italy and launched a career in 1981 by creating One Off Ltd, his studio, with colleague Caroline Thormann.  He rapidly became successful, with his most well-known piece probably being the bookworm bookshelf which was subsequently manufactured by Kartell and is now commercially successful as well as being an icon of modern design.

He has come a long way since the design of the bookcase, and now works in multiple areas including architecture, design and fine arts.  It is this breadth of styles that has led to the title of the exhibition - the first time his work is exhibited in France - No Discipline.
