The Louvre Museum has been running a series of exhibitions in which contemporary art has been juxtaposed with old masters. This is probably to most interesting exhibition of its kind so far, presenting the work of Yan Pei-Ming alongside the Mona Lisa.
Yan Pei-Ming's work consists of oversized canvases in washed-out colours. His traditional subjects have been contemporary, including a picture of the artist's father and a self-portrait of the artist as a corpse; In an interview with French television, Yan Pei-Ming explained that since the Louvre usually only presents the work of artists after their death, it seemed appropriate for him to present himself as he would have appeared were he in the same situation as the other artists.
His version of the Mona Lisa dwarfs the original painting, is rendered in pale monochrome, and has her crying tears of paint.
