Mathias, an almost 50-year-old New Yorkers, arrives in Paris to sell - as quickly as he can manage - the only worldly possession his father saw fit to leave him, a splendid and enormous apartment. Upon entering the premises, he finds himself face to face with Mathilde, an elegant older lady who lives there with her daughter, Chloé. It is at this point that he discovers that the apartment has been rented for life to Mathilde, and that his inheritance may prove slightly trickier to acquire than at first he may have thought.
